Have You Heard? The Dirty Nil
The oldies and current bands are always great music to listen to and to admire, but what's also important? That's right. The future of music creation. This will be the first of many posts to focus on up-and-coming bands that, in my opinion, are doing some pretty cool things for the music industry. So let's take a look!
First up is a band called The Dirty Nil. Yes, that's 'Nil' not "Nail'. The Dirty Nil consists of three members, are from Ontario, Canada, and have been active since 2006.
Their music is something else. I highly suggest taking a listen. Some of the more remarkable pieces in their music include the vocals. The way in which he sings is rage-driven, and almost an un-caring yelling. Overall, it's the feeling of letting go and getting whatever it is out. It's punk rock, with a high end production to it. Another quirky aspect to this band is the garage band feel, with extra feedback even in recorded versions of songs. This is straight up music, three instruments used to produce something rad. If I were to compare them to some popular bands as far as sound, I would say The Replacements, and a mix of Weezer with that bit of cleaner, higher-end production.

I did have the pleasure of seeing this band live, and the music was pretty much the same as what you are hearing here. The live version is much better though because you also get to jump and yell, and watch the band really get into it. It is confirmation that it's a type of punk rock genre because as soon as the first song began, the initial instinct was to jump up and down. I also noticed that a main theme of the band was just overall happiness. As soon as they stepped on stage, you could tell they were excited to be there, excited to play music, and excited to rock.
This band has energy, this band has charisma, and this band has freaking rad tunes. This is the kind of fuel needed to keep the music and rock scene going strong. As music go-ers, it is important to support bands that you dig by listening to their music, buying a CD, or going to their shows (that's the best part!). The Dirty Nil is bringing the 'simple yet effective' punk rock tunes back, and they are bringing it back hard. Check them out!
