NEWEST TUNE FROM GREEN DAY
Green Day released another track, the third, from their new and anticipated album due for arrival on October 7th.
Recently the band included a list of descriptions from each song on their upcoming album on the Rolling Stone website. In this article, Bill Joe Armstrong explains how this is some heavy stuff. If you take a listen, we can agree it's not heavy in a musical sense, but as far as the message, it is quite deep. After listening to it a good few times, I can't help but link the lyrics in this song to the rehab Billie Joe recently went through. Apparently it was a pretty rough time for him and the band. I mean, Mike Dirnt's wife, and the other guitar player Jason White both went through cancer treatments, making things even more difficult. I think this song can be extremely relatable, and gosh darn it, Green Day is so freaking good at doing that. They create these power pop sounds and put lyrics that both mean a great deal to them, and can apply to anything that anyone is going through.
As far as the music, it is a bit more pop-y than I was expecting, but hey, it gets the message across. I can't help but notice how clear and crisp the drums sound on this album so far, but especially on this song, and in my opinion, Billie Joe's singing is coming out a bit more. What I mean by this is that in UNO, DOS, and TRE, he seemed to keep his vocal range similar throughout. In this song, I hear different styles of singing that almost sound weird because Billie Joe is singing it. The production in this song does remind me a lot of the production on the new Blink-182 album. I know these bands have always had similar sounds, but particularly the production s comes off very alike. Perhaps this has to do with the type of song.
Green Day is back! There is definitely a more powerful energy coming from the band than there has been in the past, which as a Green Day fan (if you couldn't tell), gets me pretty pumped for the rest of their politically-packed and pop-punk(ier) new album.
